Quinoline-Based Hybrid Compounds with Antimalarial Activity.
The application of quinoline-based compounds for the treatment of malaria infections is hampered by drug resistance. Drug resistance has led to the combination of quinolines with other classes of antimalarials resulting in enhanced therapeutic outcomes. However, the combination of antimalarials is limited by drug-drug interactions. In order to overcome the aforementioned factors, several resear...
متن کاملPalladium(II)-catalysed regioselective synthesis of 3,4-disubstituted quinolines and 2,3,5-trisubstituted pyrroles from alkenes via anti-Markovnikov selectivity.
A novel strategy has been identified for the regioselective synthesis of 3,4-disubstituted quinolines and 2,3,5-trisubstituted pyrroles from simple alkenes via anti-Markovnikov selectivity under palladium catalysis. The salient features are synthesis of two different heterocycles, readily available starting materials, broad substrate scope, moderate to good yields and use of molecular oxygen as...
متن کاملGeraniol-derived 1,2,4-trioxanes with potent in-vivo antimalarial activity.
Geraniol, an abundantly available naturally occurring allylic alcohol, has been used as a starting material to prepare a series of 6-[alpha-(3'-aryl-3'-hydroxypropyl)vinyl]-1,2,4-trioxanes. Some of these novel trioxanes have shown very promising antimalarial activity against multi-drug resistant Plasmodium yoelii in mice by both intramuscular (im) and oral routes.
متن کاملAcridine and Acridinones: Old and New Structures with Antimalarial Activity
Since emergence of chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum and reports of parasite resistance to alternative drugs, there has been renewed interest in the antimalarial activity of acridines and their congeners, the acridinones. This article presents literature compilation of natural acridinone alkaloids and synthetic 9-substituted acridines, acridinediones, haloalcoxyacridinones and 10-N-su...
متن کاملA novel artemisinin-quinine hybrid with potent antimalarial activity.
Artemisinin was reduced to dihydroartemisinin and coupled to a carboxylic acid derivative of quinine via an ester linkage. This novel hybrid molecule had potent activity against the 3D7 and (drug-resistant) FcB1 strains of Plasmodium falciparum in culture. The activity was superior to that of artemisinin alone, quinine alone, or a 1:1 mixture of artemisinin and quinine.
